Walt Disney World can get hot in the afternoon. And sometimes, the Florida skies open up with a surprise downpour. When that happens, the parks aren’t your only option. In fact, one of the best ways to spend a few hours — no park ticket needed — is to hop on the monorail and visit the resorts along the loop.
The Disney monorail connects three deluxe resorts: Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. Each one has great lounges with unique cocktails, tasty food, and indoor seating — perfect for staying cool or dry.
This plan is low-stress. It’s a chill way to take a break, meet friends, or explore the resorts in a different way.
Stop 1: Disney’s Contemporary Report
Lounge: Outer Rim
This cozy bar is tucked beside Chef Mickey’s with big windows overlooking Bay Lake. It’s quiet and rarely crowded — a great place to begin.
- Recommended Drink: Smoked Turkey – A sweet-and-smoky cocktail made with bourbon, red huckleberry, and grenadine.
- Recommended Bite: Contempo Café Loaded Nachos – Just steps away, these are easy to grab and share.
Hop on the monorail (just upstairs) and ride over to your next stop.
Stop 2: Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
Lounge: Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace or Grog Grotto
This stop has big tropical energy. The outdoor Tiki Terrace opens earlier in the day, while the indoor Grog Grotto opens at 3 PM and includes themed effects when you order certain drinks.
- Recommended Drink: Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Rum – A creamy rum drink with toasted coconut and pineapple. Fun and flavorful.
- Recommended Bite: Pulled Pork Nachos – Found at Capt. Cook’s downstairs. These are a cult favorite for a reason.
This resort is fun to explore, so take a few minutes to wander the beach or lobby before your next ride.
Stop 3: Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
Lounge: Enchanted Rose
Classy and calm, this lounge is inspired by Beauty and the Beast. It has rich details, soft lighting, and some of the best drinks on Disney property.
- Recommended Drink: Lavender Fog – A gin-based drink with Earl Grey tea and vanilla. Light and floral.
- Recommended Bite: Truffle Fries – Perfect for sharing and pairs well with cocktails.
From here, you can either circle back to the Contemporary, call it a day, or head to Magic Kingdom (if you have park admission).
